Morris County Caregivers’ Respite
Morris County Caregivers Respite is a service umbrella that encompasses three smaller services for Morris County Residents. It has a dual purpose of providing recreational time and activities for our participants while simultaneously providing invaluable respite time for caregivers. The overall service consists of two group activities that meet once a month, as well as one-to-one individualized respite service. During fiscal year 2010, 988 hours of support were provided to 17 families.
Teen Beat is a community based activity group that meets the second Saturday of every month from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. Teen Beat caters to people in their late teens and early twenties who want to be active in the community. Some of our activities include plays, movies, museums, historical sites, mini-golfing and many others. Participants are dropped off at our office in Chester and we handle the transportation from there.
Dinner Social is our second group and eets the third Tuesday of every month. It is geared toward a slightly older crowd than Teen Beat, and the purpose is exactly what you’d think: get people together around a meal, have a good time, and hopefully get home at a reasonable hour! And it’s not just our participants who get to enjoy a night out; many of the caregivers we are relieving take the opportunity to go out themselves, strengthening relationships and providing some needed down-time.
Personal Flex is the final aspect of Morris County Caregivers Respite, and as the name implies, is flexible based on the needs of the family. It is a one-to-one service where the specifics of the respite are determined in a meeting with the family. Some people use the time for in-home respite while the caregivers go out, others have their Support Professional help them on errands or medical appointments, and others still use the time for recreation activities. As with the other services, Personal Flex provides opportunities for our participants, while also easing the sometimes intense burden of caregiving.
