Out of Home Respite
Out of Home Respite, formerly known as Hotel Respite, has not just a new name, but a few other changes that for the most part only affect how UCP is paid to provide our respite services. In the past, DDD (who funds these services in New Jersey) contracted with UCP (and other providers) to provide respite services (this process will continue at UCP through September 30, 2011), and DDD case managers sent referrals for Respite to our coordinator. Effective October 1, 2011 UCP will be reimbursed for the cost of providing these respite services. The reimbursement will cover accommodations, meals (up to $75 per day), and staffing. Costs for activities during the respite sessions will no longer be covered in the DDD reimbursement.
During both the weeklong or weekend respite sessions, individuals with disabilities experience independence and community inclusion in a variety of social and recreational activities. We conduct our Respite services at local hotels, where each participant has their own bed and we maintain a low participant to staff ratio to ensure the safety and needs of your loved one. UCP remains committed to offering a variety of on-site and community activities for your loved ones while participating in our Out of Home Respite services. Our staff will be scheduling trips and activities that can be both affordable and pleasurable for Respite consumers.
Respite serves a dual purpose of providing the opportunity for caregivers to rest, vacation, or do something for themselves while we care for your family member living with a disability. We understand that the care of a family member is a big responsibility, and that often the needs of their caregivers and/or other family members may take a back seat. While at Respite, your family member has the opportunity to make friends and choose activities they most enjoy; our participants have a great time -- on their terms.
